CASIO G’zOne Ravine 2 cell phone

Review of my new Ravine 2 phone with Verizon Wireless. This phone is ‘rugged, dust, shock and water resistant’.

Nothing new here. Very few “new” features. Almost same exact phone as the original Ravine. What a joke.

I didn’t have the first Ravine. I still like this one. It serves its purpose well. If you need more features, go for a smartphone such as HTC or Samsung or Motorola. But I don’t think you can drop those in 2 m (6 ft) of water and still use afterwards ;)

I plan on getting this phone. Facebook and internet browsing isn’t essential for me, but does this phone have them?

How is texting on this phone?

It has ‘Mobile Web’ and ‘Mobile Email’. I never used these features. I prefer to browse the Net on my 17″ screen laptop!

You can send a TXT message, a PICTURE message, a VIDEO message, and a VOICE message. Entry modes are: Voice, T9 Word, Abc, Symbols, T9 Palabra.

So getting this phone since it has T9 and that’s all I use anyway. Thanks for the review!

Yes. It has all those features. I just got this phone and love it. I can browse youtube BETTER on this than the droid razor. No buffering, etc…Downside is that talk to text doesn’t work very well, and it does freeze up once in a while for about 20 seconds, then unfreezes. It is awesome though.

I have this phone now and I can’t believe it still works through all the crap I put it through like dropping it in water and running it over with my car. It’s truly the best sturdy phone out there.

can anyone tell me why i can’t do a smiley face on my ravine 2 without going into the symbols and doing a colon then close parentheses instead of just hitting 1 twice?

I’m seriously considering this phone, but I’ve always gotten the free phones and have been well served by them so far.

What I’m looking for now is a phone that I can use to make calls, but also has a good quality camera that has a card so I can pull them off the camera without going through the verizon photo nonsense. I’d also like to load my own ringtones if possible.

Does this phone take good photos and videos, and can I load my own ringtones directly?

It takes great pictures but videos are low quality. Not sure about the ring tones.

I think I’ll go ahead and get one as it seems like a great phone. The ringtones and video aren’t a priority anyway.

Thank you for your fast reply! :)

my friend has one .. sounds like a blown microphone when he talks on it… junk

The phone has an unusual location for a mike. It’s not at the bottom like on most phones. As long you know where it is, and keep it unobstructed, the sound is excellent. At least it was on mine, after I found where the mike was. Before you call something ‘junk’ you have to learn how to use it properly.

Is there any indication on the front screen where it will show when you have missed a call or have a voice message? Also, it has been awhile since you originally posted this video, do you still like the phone? Is there anything now that you have found that you dislike?
Thanks for the video and I look forward to your reply to my questions.

Honestly I don’t remember. After I unlocked it, people were bugging me to sell it, so I put it on Ebay and it sold for a decent price. I now have a LG Spectrum smartphone… I got it because after Motorola Droid I had before it was hard to live without 24/7 Internet access ;)

I now have a LG Spectrum smartphone but I miss the Casio! It is a great phone, especially since you can unlock the GSM module in it and use it pretty much everywhere…
