How to call a Skype account using Ekiga?
Hi,
I have Ekiga Softphone (both the software and a registered account). I’d like to be able to call my friends’ Skype accounts. I’ve searched the web and apparently it is possible to do so (it isn’t free of charge, but that’s OK by me). However, I am a newbie to the entire Internet telephony scene and I have no idea how to go about it. If someone could give me some step-by-step instructions I’d be most grateful. Thanks!
Ekiga uses SIP and H.323 Protocols for VoIP.
Skype uses an undisclosed proprietary VoIP protocol and does not allow interoperability from other services.
There are no user configurable softphones that can be configured to connect to Skype (because their protocol is secret and private to their network).
The only way to talk to other Skype users is to download and install Skype on your PC.
I use many different VoIP Softphones on my PC. But, I run Skype when I need to talk to other Skype users.

Ok, I’ve done a little more research and found that there is one company that makes SIP-to-Skype "bridging" software, called NCH Software.

Best I can tell though, it may require you to use their SIP Softphone for it to work.
