How Cell Phones Affect Our Health

December 18th, 2009

There has been plenty of debate as to whether or not cell phones have holistically upgraded our lives. True, they have played a pivotal role in many fields. But are they really that helpful to society?

Despite the numerous criticism against these devices, people don’t seem to waver their support for mobile phones. In fact, as of 2008, there were about 304.7 million mobile phone units sold in the whole world. And that doesn’t even quantify the number of users, which are abundant in all countries. In the United States, 203 million people own and use cell phones. In Australia, the number of mobile phones being utilized even surpasses the entire country’s population. The influence of these inventions is extreme. As proof of this, they have already broken boundaries and transcended culture. Can you imagine what the world would be like if mobile phones were banned for their harmful effects?

Alzheimers and Parkinsons are just some of the diseases being attributed to prolonged cell phone use. But above these, the possibility of getting brain cancer is what most health-conscious individuals worry about their fascination with these gadgets. Mobile phone electromagnetic radiation is said to destroy the protein barrier of the brain and make it susceptible to viruses and toxins. Aside from that, it is also said to destroy red blood cells and cause hemoglobin leaking, which consequently harms the heart and kidney. These harms eventually manifest as an elevated blood pressure and a decrease in the body’s immunity.

On another note, the radiation being released by cell phones are also suggested to cause serious environmental problems. It even has the ability to ignite gasoline fumes, which can cause freak fires. As such, they cannot be used near any refilling stations. Mobile phone use has also been a major predisposing factor to car accidents. And according to a study, phone distractions while driving produce about 200 deaths and a million injuries every year.

Authorities do not question the relevance of cell phones today. But they do, however, express their concern about our excesses and carelessness. In this age of globalization, we cannot fight the tide. But we must know how to ride it, for it is the only way that we can keep our selves safely afloat despite the strong current. So instead of preoccupying ourselves with the latest model releases and its features, we should begin to enrich ourselves on preventive tips and the proper use of cell phones. By using the internet, we can gather enough intelligence to help us live a better, healthier mobile phone using life.

A Look at Future Phones

November 5th, 2009

The mobile phone market is developing at super speeds, the market is an ever changing one that is worth billions of pounds. If we cast our minds back to over a decade ago, you will remember that phones did one specific thing and that was to call someone.

If you now think of the current day handset, you will acknowledge that you can literally do anything and everything on them, such as take pictures record videos and browse the net. So where can we actually see phones progressing in the next coming years? Let us take a quick look into this.

Phones are going to change their bodily structure and anatomy; I can see a lot of handsets in reality opening up and becoming full blown headsets with multimedia system functions. The new phones will not only have superb functions but they are also going to be tremendously bendy and flexible, so you can literally wear the phone like a watch.

Within a decade’s time we could anticipate desktop computers to be made redundant in offices and our monitors being powered by our brawny smart phone system which we can then use on the go. You will be able to purchase everything on the move on your phone even before visiting a shop.

Cell phones will no longer just be for calling a phone number, telephone numbers may not even exist within the next few years, just names and code digits of the person that you want to communicate with. There is no point even calling these things phones anymore, they will be so much more then that. They should literally be called an entertainment system because that is what they will be. They may even have small projectors on them that allow you to watch movies and stream TV on the go.

2 Latest Features For Mobile Phones

June 11th, 2009

Every day phone technology breaks new boundaries. It was not so long ago that games were the latest thing for phones to have and decent camera phones have only been with us a few years.  Some argue that the phone companies have access to the technology long before we will ever see it, but release new updates every now and again to keep us upgrading.  This may be true but it is still the case that phone technology is moving forwards at an alarming rate and it’s amazing how much Habia cable they are now stuffing in those little boxes. So what can we expect from the next generation of phones?

Projectors. Rather than squinting at a tiny phone screen, how would you like to watch movies on your mobile movies on a 50″ display? Well the latest phones are offering just that and include a powerful built-in projector using beacon lights that can be used to project any image visible on the screen. The most commercial phone to offer this is the Samsung I7410. Which will be out in the US and UK soon. There is even takes of a newer version that uses new Hellerman Tyton technology that projects HD images

Friend location. If you would like to know where you friends are at all times that Apple might have the application for you. They have recently launched a new service that will link you to all your friends who have the same technology and show you on a map where they all are. Thankfully you have to sign up to this service to use it so people cannot just start stalking you, although you may always want people knowing where you are even if you did sign up for it.

Mobile Phones Are Not Just for Voice Calls and SMS

May 9th, 2009

Almost everyone has a Mobile Phone these days. It has become so important that it is now a part of our lives. Without it, we can be lost. Just think about what types of information you store in your mobile phones.

Contacts, Calendar Appointments, Pictures and Photos, SMSes, Notes, songs, podcasts, etc. are the different types of information we store in our mobile phones. Just imagine the pain and frustration if you lose your phone.

Most mobile phone users don’t backup their phone data. If you do, you have saved yourself a lot of pain and frustration. A lot of us use the mobile phone only for 2 main purposes. One to receive and make calls and the other to send and receive text messages. Well, the mobile phone is not just for communication purposes.

Let me give you an example :

The number 1 button on your keypad is stated as the VoiceMail key. As the name implies, it is used to access your voice mailbox to listen to your voice messages left by your callers who could not get you. Press and hold the number 1 button will initiate a call to the Voice Mailbox for you to retrieve your voice messages.

However, I have a suggestion for you. How about programming this number 1 button to your most frequently dialed number instead? If you frequently called your boss, why not program his number to this button? And for those who have aged parents at home, why not program their phone to your number? In an emergency, your aged parents only need to press the number 1 button to get you. There are lots of other ways, you can use your mobile phone to make your life easier. Be creative and don’t just use it for voice calls and sms.

Prepaid Mobile Plans - Which One Is Right For You?

May 6th, 2009

There are many prepaid mobile billing plans available, which makes it somewhat hard to choose between the various options. This guide, which is valid for all countries, is here to help you avoid unnecessary costs. Each cell phone company has pros and cons of each service and feature they offer.

To begin with, you need to understand that there are stark differences between the available prepaid mobile offers. They may seem the same at first glance, or perceptions of differences may at first only be tied to the advertising campaigns of mobile phone operators, but once you look deeper, you will understand the differences.

As for the handset, you will not get a subsidised one as offered with lock-in contracts by opting for a prepaid mobile. But even if you get an expensive mobile phone the cost savings will make themselves felt in the long term, as prepaid mobile plans are usually cheaper. But remember that you will have to pay the full price of the handset right away.

With prepaid mobiles, you need to top up your credit regularly. Generally speaking, the higher the top-up, the more benefits it will bring and the cheaper will your calls be in the end. Always prefer few but sizeable top-ups to a lot of small ones, if you can.

That said, bear in mind that prepaid mobile credit expires. You need to know when your credit expires, and if it’s about to do so you can take advantage of a feature called rollover. This means that if you add some credit, the old credit’s expiration date will become the same as for the new credit.

Another great perk is off peak time. With some prepaid plan, calls are cheaper at night and on weekends. If you spend most of the daytime at home, in the office or at school, this is a great bonus.

Some carriers offer cheaper international calls than others. And for US prepaid mobile carriers, not all have the same prices for long distance calls. These rates are usually buried in the fine print, but make sure that you compare them across operators.

There are several other points that you may want to check out in the fine print, depending on your usage pattern, such as internet connection price of voicemail calls, or cost of prepaid mobile content such as ringtones and music videos.

The main lessons to bear in mind are that you need to know your expected type of prepaid mobile usage to be able to save, and that comparing and contrasting offers will allow you to find the most appropriate prepaid mobile for you.
